RGB front-lit letters, also known as RGB channel letters, are commonly used on storefronts, fuel stations, and other commercial buildings. These signs combine stainless steel, opal acrylic, and RGB LED lights to produce rich color effects and dynamic displays.

If you’re not yet familiar with how RGB letters are built or how they work, we recommend reading our previous post: General Guide for RGB LED Channel Letters.

This article will focus on a key challenge: installation problems, especially flickering or color mismatches between letters. An unstable power supply, improper wiring, or signal interference often causes these issues. Based on customer feedback and in-house experience, we’ll walk you through the troubleshooting steps to help you avoid or fix these problems efficiently.

Common Installation Problem: Flickering or Unsynced Colors

Customer Question

We followed the manual when connecting the letters, but a few flickers, and they won’t sync the colors. What went wrong?

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide

Step 1: Verify Signal Cable Shielding. Signal cables should be anti-interference or shielded to prevent disruptions caused by other nearby electrical devices. Unshielded or low-quality cables are a common cause of flickering.

Step 2: Check the Bluetooth Connection and modify the PIN sequence. Ensure your mobile phone can connect to the controller via Bluetooth. Use the control app to adjust colors. This confirms that the controller is functioning and communication is stable.

Tips: Each time an adjustment is made, re-pairing (or PIN sequence) is required

Step 3: Check Cable Length. Signal cables that are too long can lead to signal attenuation. We recommend keeping the length within 1 meter between each letter to maintain a stable signal.

Step 4: Confirm Sufficient Power Supply. The controller’s power output is insufficient to support the total wattage required for the full set of letters, supplementary charging is needed. We can divide the letters into groups, and each group of letters should have its own power supply. If the current is shared across too many letters, the voltage drop can result in flickering or inconsistent lighting.

Why Do Businesses Prefer RGB Channel Letters?

Although it has slightly more complex installation requirements, RGB front-lit letters remain a favorite for many business owners. Here’s why:

  • Multiple Color Options: Capable of displaying static, changing, or animated effects.
  • Strong Visual Attraction: Perfect for drawing attention in retail, gas stations, stores, nightclubs, etc
  • Durable Construction: Built with stainless steel and acrylic for long-term outdoor use.
